How to Plan a Travel Budget in India: A Simple 5-Step Method
By the TripSahay team · 8 September 2026 · 6 min read

A beginner-friendly method to plan a realistic trip budget: count per person, per room and per group correctly, then optimise.
Step 1: Fix travellers, days and nights
Everything flows from these numbers. Nights are usually days minus one.
Step 2: Count each cost the right way
The most common mistake is multiplying everything by the number of people.
- Tickets and food → per person
- Rooms → per room (two adults per room)
- Cabs and boat rides → per group
- Fuel → per car
Step 3: Add daily extras
Local transport, entry fees and snacks. Estimate per day, then multiply by days.
Step 4: Add a reserve
5–10% extra covers price changes and small surprises.
Step 5: Compare with your budget and optimise
If you are over budget, change the biggest item first — transport mode or hotel tier — before cutting experiences. Our calculator does this automatically and shows exact savings.
